An Intimate California Courthouse Wedding

This I’d like to think it was fate that brought us to capturing the wedding of Frida and Mayan Espiritu. Gabriel & I were planning a trip for his work out in San Diego, California, and I decided to tag along. We happened upon a couple looking for an affordable photographer for their courthouse wedding and dinner reception afterwards. Out of 60+ other photographers in the bidding for their pick, we were chosen. It’s an understatement to say that we were unbelievably honored.

At this point, it was our second wedding ever, and we were extremely nervous. I had prepared myself to use flash for the first time, and we were determined to do our best for them. Frida and Mayan knew we were still knew to this, so their trust and faith in us meant the world. I was speechless after we reviewed and edited their photos, because at this point they were the best we had ever done. Some of these flash photos of their reception reminded me of Vogue.

Frida and Mayan were so kind, and even sent us back with full meals from the restaurant to make sure we were fed. Gabriel & and I can’t explain how magical of a trip this ended up being for us because of this wedding and the overall vibes of San Diego.

After this wedding, it was sealed that this is what we were meant to do. There’s something beautiful about a couple believing in you and your work, entrusting you with the of the most important day of their lives.

If you take anythign from this, don’t be afraid to go with a photographer who is just starting out. There are many who aren’t ready or developed enough, but every now and then there’s someone who just needs you to see their potential enough to take a chance on them.
